On Wednesday, the 24th of February 2016, the University of Zakho celebrated the International Mother Language Day. In the presence of the President of the University of Zakho, deans of faculties, heads of departments, lecturers, and students of the University of Zakho, the Department of Kurdish Language organized an event for this special occasion under the slogan My Language Preserves my existence focusing on the Kurdish language and some other mother languages.

Worth mentioning, this occasion was also an opportunity to congratulate Prof. Dr. Abdulwahab Khalid Mosa, Vice President for Students Affairs at the University of Zakho, Assist. Prof. Dr. Diyar Abdulkareem Saed, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and also Assist. Prof. Hussein Othman Abdulrahman, Head of the Department of Kurdish Language, for gaining their academic promotion.
